Program description | This course provides an in-depth study of blueprint reading, estimation, and basic construction principles, with a focus on the differences between scaffolding and shoring. Students will learn to interpret scaffolding drawings, use drafting techniques, and create scaffold projections. Key carpentry topics include concrete footing forms, stair building, and wood framing. The course also covers the use of Aluma beams, shrink film installation, and platform construction following OSHA standards. Additionally, it addresses crew leadership skills, federal and state regulations (CFRs and RCW/WAC), leg loads, ties, guides, securing materials, and environmental impacts. Safety practices, including rigging and signaling, are emphasized throughout. Practical experience will be gained through lectures, discussions, and hands-on projects. Lab schedules will be provided on the first night of each quarter, with a strong focus on safe work processes. |
